SCMA Overview: Where Music and Academics Meet
Mathematics

Academic Enrichment for Homeschool
Math, English, Science, Art, and PE - Taught with Musical Overtones!
* Academic Enrichment is not a replacement for regular homeschool instruction.
Language Arts

Fluency is the key. Mathematic becomes exponentially easier when your student achieves command of all the basic operations of math!
Your student shall greatly benefit from Mr. Shiloh's many years of math teaching experience, including much of his own curriculum, such as his 'Math Is A Foreign Language' series of worksheets.
Our overarching goal is to impart a love of both reading and writing to the students, whether silently reading a book or finding rhymes that fit a new tune, language arts come alive at the SCMA!
Science, Art, and Physical Education

Our informal science lessons may include building a strong bridge, fun with balloon-powered cars, or watching a 'Mt. St. Helens eruption' using vinegar and baking soda. At the SCMA, Jesus is Lord - even of science!
Our students learn basic art concepts as use of shapes, shading, texture, and more. Break out the scissors and glue!
Having been in k-8 education for over 25 years, Mr. Shiloh knows the importance of kids being physically active for a large portion of each day! Indoor activities may include balloon volleyball, obstacle courses, or a game of musical 'Duck, Duck, Goose'!
Academic Encouragement
Is it difficult for you to motivate your child to do their academic work? We can help!
Music, Music, Music!
Think of the SCMA as a mini-music conservatory: reading, writing, theory, history, and performance!
Instrumental Music

Vocal Music
Starting with kindergarten, our students learn how to read instrumental music, play a drum set, guitar, piano - and much more!
This song was flawlessly performed by Mr. Shiloh's third grade students at Kessler. This middle-school level piece features three part harmonies with different entrances. Apart from performing great music, your student will be able to read vocal music, will learn proper breath control, diction, and tone for an enjoyment of singing that will last a lifetime.
Music History and Appreciation
Music Theory

The SCMA typically features the 'Instrument of the Week.' (Mr. Shiloh plays over 15 different musical instruments from trombone to the cello). Students shall also gain a deep musical appreciation covering varied cultures over many centuries.
'Quacky Treble Clef' and 'Daniel the Dolphin' lead the way as children discover 'Presto' tempo, melodic fifths, and how 'piano' is not always a musical instrument!

How it works:
1) Parents and child decide weekly goals.
2) The student is rewarded one 'Dolphin Dollar' for completion of work
3) On the last day of each month, students may exchange their Dolphin Dollars for 'fishing' for prizes, or from the treasure chest!

A Musical Overview
Fun Moments and Memories*

One of the secrets of a great performance is having a great accompanist (for this concert, Mr. Warren). In this the picture, the kindergartners enjoy listening to the beginning band.
The theme for this Christmas concert was 'Life in America.' The first graders sang, "Christmas for Cowboys", complete with the tipping of their hats.
Although Mr. Shiloh studied classical piano at the university, his first love is - and always will be - percussion!
The sound of these angelic middle students is inexpressible. Students at the Academy learn how to read and perform music - starting at a very early age!
Grades 3-5 typically learn to read instrumental music on recorders - which has similar fingerings to a clarinet or saxophone.
Excellent education in music, enrichment in math, English, art, science, PE, support for homeschool parents, and academic motivation for homeschool students.... the Shiloh Christian Music Academy has it all!
* Due to legal restraints, we were not able to share recollections of Mr. Shiloh's more recent concerts at Kessler Elementary School and Mt. Solo Middle School.
